The First International Conference on the Prevention and Care of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) in Mexico is organized by the Fundación de Investigaciones Sociales A.C. (FISAC). This conference aims to raise awareness about FASD, promote knowledge and exchange, and foster joint action for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
Globally, the prevalence of alcohol consumption during pregnancy is 9.8%. The Americas rank as the second-highest continent, with an 11.2% prevalence—second only to Europe. In Latin America, this prevalence varies significantly, ranging from 0.4% to 57.4%
In Mexico, there is a lack of updated data on prevalence, and no standardized detection, diagnosis, or treatment protocols exist. The last national survey exploring this issue was conducted in 1988, revealing a prevalence of 16.8%.

Dr. Augusto Rojas Martínez is a physician with a master’s in Human Genetics and a doctorate in Molecular Biology, along with postdoctoral training in Gene and Cell Therapy. Certified by the Mexican Council of Genetics, his research focuses on the genomics of complex diseases in Latin America, pharmacogenomics and toxicogenomics of addictive substances, and gene and cell therapy. He is a Level 3 member of the National System of Researchers (SNI), a member of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He has served as president of the Mexican Association of Human Genetics and the Latin American Network of Human Genetics. He collaborates with international institutions and is an associate editor for prestigious scientific publications.
Pediatra – NeonatólogaDr. Larissa María Gómez Ruiz is a pediatrician and neonatologist, serving as a staff physician in the Neonatology Department at the New Civil Hospital of Guadalajara "Dr. Juan I. Menchaca," where she also coordinates the Neonatology specialty program. She is a Level 1 National Researcher and a member of the Mexican Academy of Pediatrics. She obtained a doctorate in Medicine and Translational Research from the University of Barcelona. Her primary research interests are perinatal pharmacology and toxicology.

Dr. Laura Jiménez Aquino is a physician from Universidad La Salle, specializing in Psychiatry at UNAM, with advanced training in Psychogeriatrics, Perinatal Psychiatry, and Systemic Family Therapy. She currently works at the National Institute of Perinatology and in private practice. She is a founding member of the Mexican Association for Maternal Mental Health, advocating for mental health awareness in motherhood. Her work focuses on parenting, breastfeeding, and the impact of emotional well-being on child development.

Dr. Silvia Lorenia Cruz Martín del Campo holds a biology degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a master’s and doctorate in Pharmacology from CINVESTAV. She completed postdoctoral training at Virginia Commonwealth University (USA). She is a member of the Opioid Research Group at the Seminar on Global Studies (UNAM School of Medicine), the Addiction Committee of the Fundación Gonzalo Río Arronte, and the expert panel for the "No está chido" campaign by the Business Communication Council. Her work focuses on addiction research and its public health implications.
